The Fall-tastic Read You Need

PumpkinsAbout three years ago, I was doing my thing enjoying Halloween with pumpkin patches, and costumes, and treats. It was awesome, but not all years are easy to celebrate because of the limited types of ways there are to celebrate.

It can be increasingly tricky as you grow to find content and activities in the month of October that aren’t centered on horror. And while I like a nice thrill, for me, Halloween has never been about things that go bump in the night.

I love the wonder of Halloween. I love carving jack-o’-lanterns with happy faces, having orange and gold and glitter everywhere, decorating cupcakes to look like bats, dressing up and spending a day at Disneyland. (Did you know that the very first televised portrayal of trick-or-treating was the Walt Disney Productions 1952 animated short film Trick or Treat featuring Donald Duck and his nephews on Halloween night?)

Anyway, that year I returned to some of my classic Halloween content when it was TV time, like Halloween Town II, fall Hallmark movies, any Halloween Heist episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, that “Summerween” episode of Gravity Falls–that sort of thing, lol. Because if you’re the kind of person who looks away when you walk through a Halloween party store so you don’t have to see the disembodied limbs and gruesome masks, you have to go back to the vault for October content most of the time. Why?

We live in a world where basically every other show made is about murder (though there are amazing things in this genre; The Residence is one of the top 10 shows I’ve ever seen, EVER). And the general production consensus across mediums seems to be to go dark with an increasing “gore is good” vibe. Which means for people who’d rather not have nightmares, October can be tricky. Not treat-y . . .

Break Free From The Ghosts Of The PastIn thinking about this, and my deep love for holidays and the fall season, inspiration sparked inside of me. What if I created a Halloween adventure that had wonder, suspense, humor, spookiness, romance, action, quirky weirdness, a controlled amount of scariness, and deep meaning? What if I did that with a strong female protagonist, two compelling villains, and some spunky side characters? What if I emphasized important themes about self-esteem, forgiveness, change, and growing into yourself throughout this story? And what if I created epic new worlds, but also had fun with the real world, exploring our real lore and science related to hauntings and paranormal energy?

The answer–what ifs to me can easily be why nots. So I began this story and I could’ve never expected it to develop into what it did: a TWO-PART adventure of awesomeness. I love it so much, and I know that if you like the fall, Halloween, and a strong, character-driven story, you’ll love it too.

To my current fans and future readers, I hope this lights you up like a jack-o’-lantern stuffed with a fireball.

I think it will . . .

RELEASING AUGUST 26, 2025

In the closer-than-you-think Calendar Realm, there are 12 kingdoms—one for every month of the year. As sole heir to the fall-tastic kingdom of October, Eve Celt has always wanted to be as strong and balanced as her fierce parents. From embracing her powers of light and shadow, to fighting phantoms from the Ghost Dimension, she’s trained with a Vampire-hybrid coach her entire life to increase her magic and self-esteem so she can inherit the throne and live up to these expectations.

Unfortunately, when the confident, charismatic son of a noble family overthrows her parents and turns her into a puppet princess, her world and the neighboring realm of Earth are thrust into danger.

The support of her “monster” pals and friendly-ghost best friend won’t be enough to save the day. To reclaim her kingdom and keep darkness from overtaking October and other worlds, Eve must learn to save herself. With the help of a Ghost Hunting web series team in Seattle, and its engineer host holding his own mysterious past, Eve is in for an epic adventure across worlds as she discovers her own power and the true magic of Halloween.
